life. From valuable books to rare manuscripts, and from our moving image
services to our sound archive, we are here to offer a comprehensive, valuable
resource for everyone.
People from all walks of life and from all over the world visit us – in person and online, for research, inspiration and enjoyment. We are proud to be home to everything from the Diamond Sutra, the world's earliest printed book (dated 868), to the sole surviving manuscript copy of Beowulf. Now, to ensure our valuable collection remains protected while fully accessible, we are looking for an exceptional security expert to lead the way.
In this rewarding role, you will manage the Security Control Room at the British Library. Crucially, you will be focused on delivering excellent customer service, while providing management of the Control Room in close consultation with the Head of Security Operations. You will be confident and experienced in Control Room Operations with knowledge of all associated policies and procedures. You will have the knowledge of Data Protection issues as applied to Control Room environments and be responsible for reviewing, updating and developing policies and procedures. You will also be experienced in providing leadership and direction for Control Room Teams.
This role involves working within a team of Security Managers who are rostered (five-week rolling - days only) as Duty Security Managers/ Incident Control officers (ICO) for the British Library. You will have experience in similar security roles on a large site, either in the public or private sector with particular emphasis on customer service and good practice.
It is essential that you have incident Management experience, Control room Operational experience and strong team management experience. You will bring with you strong people management skills with a particular emphasis on evaluation of and supporting performance management.
In return, we offer a competitive salary and a number of excellent benefits. Our pension scheme is one of the most valuable benefits we offer, as our staff can become members of the Alpha Pension Scheme where the Library contributes a minimum of 26.6% (this may be higher dependant on grade). Another significant benefit the Library provides is the provision of a flexible working hours scheme which could allow you to work your hours flexibly over the week and to take up to 5 days flexi leave in a 3 month period. This is on top of 25 days holiday from entry and public and privilege holidays.
