Calling all problem fixers, content gurus and obsessive get-it-done types.
Do you eat, sleep and breathe digital? We’re at the start of an exciting journey to review and redevelop our web strategy, beginning with a web discovery project working with a leading agency. We need an enthusiastic and experienced Web Content Manager who can help transform our web presence over the next year with opportunities identified by our web discovery project. You will help us open up a world of ideas and inspiration so that people can do incredible things with our collection.
Whether it’s online or in our buildings, our collection is here for everyone. So we want to deliver a fantastic web experience for all our users, wherever they are. To do this you’ll:
- overhaul our current web content through a programme of optimisation
- work with colleagues to ensure their web content is the very best it can be, delivering solutions for stakeholders
- day to day management of web content via two web editors and a coordinator
- develop areas of the website to improve our user experience
- help deliver our new box office system
- maximise existing functionality and systems
As someone used to telling stories digitally, you’ll be able to conjure up content in a way that leads people down the virtual rabbit hole. But you’ll be just as comfortable grappling with data to make user journey recommendations or report on how we’re doing. You’ll be never happier than when you’re finding your way about a new content management system. And when you come up for air, you’ll enjoy getting to know a whole host of different stakeholders who you’ll work with, from the collection kings and queens in the curatorial team to the word nerds in marketing.
What we can offer you
Our benefits include:
• Fantastic 26.6%+ employer salary pension contribution
• Flexible working with the opportunity to take up to 20 days additional leave per year
• 27.5 days annual leave
• Free Medicare scheme
When the UK’s national library was founded in the 1970s the first emails were being sent and innovators like Apple and Microsoft were just starting up. We emerged in this era of great creativity and ingenuity and today we continue to help inspire the next big (or small) idea. An award-winning novel. An innovative new business. Or a scientific breakthrough that could change all our lives.
And while we’re relatively young our collection goes back more than 3,000 years, but also includes this morning’s newspapers, blogs and tweets. They all add up to more than 170 million items – from Leonardo da Vinci to Benjamin Zephaniah, Florence Nightingale to Andrea Levy – and a vast digital archive, making us one of the largest libraries in the world. We open up this world of inspiration to everyone: at our sites in London and Yorkshire, through our partnerships with local libraries across the UK, and in homes and workspaces everywhere online.
In return we offer a competitive salary and a number of excellent benefits. Our pension scheme is one of the most valuable benefits we offer, as our staff can become members of the Alpha Pension Scheme where the Library contributes a minimum 26.6%. Another significant benefit the Library provides is the provision of a flexible working hours scheme which could allow you to work your hours flexibly over the week and to take up to 5 days flexi leave ina 3 month period. This is on top of 25 days holiday from entry and public and privilege holidays.
More about the British Library
As one of the world’s great libraries, our duty is to preserve the nation’s intellectual memory for the future. At the moment we have well over 150 million items, in most known languages, with three million new items added every year. We have manuscripts, maps, newspapers, magazines, prints and drawings, music scores, and patents. We operate the world’s largest document delivery service providing millions of items a year to customers all over the world. What matters to us is that we preserve the national memory and enable knowledge to be created both now and in the future.
