The Modern Archives and Manuscripts section is responsible for the India Office Records and the Western Manuscript collections (1601-1950). The cataloguer’s main task will be to catalogue the Legal Adviser’s records in the India Office Records. This collection comprises the records of the standing counsels retained by the East India Company (1600-1858) and the India Office (1858-1947). The post-holder will catalogue the records into the Library’s online archive cataloguing system, and will promote the records to relevant audiences. The post-holder will also support the wider work of the team as required.

Candidates should be qualified archivists or have equivalent experience, with a first degree in a relevant subject. They should have experience of archival cataloguing and a sound knowledge of the relevant standards. A proven track record of completing work to deadlines is essential. A familiarity with legal records and/or an interest in legal history is strongly desirable. In return we offer a competitive salary and a number of excellent benefits.  Our pension scheme is one of the most valuable benefits we offer, as our staff can become members of the Alpha Pension Scheme where the Library contributes 26.6% (this may be higher dependant on grade) Another significant benefit the Library provides is the provision of a flexible working hours scheme which could allow you to work your hours flexibly over the week and to take up to 5 days flexi leave in a 3 month period.
